This week Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare organized a workshop on sustainable healthcare in Oslo, Norway.

The workshop was part of our project on creating a white paper on sustainable healthcare. The white paper will encompass several areas which are key in making the Nordic countries world leaders in sustainable healthcare. Such areas include environmental management, innovation, culture and much more. During the event the participants had the opportunity to listen to several experts in the field, mingle with other relevant stakeholders and discuss the challenges and opportunities creating a Nordic sustainable healthcare.

After the workshop, the participants were all invited to join us at the Swedish Ambassadors Residence in Oslo where we concluded the day with a mingle. After the Swedish ambassador, Krister Bringéus, greeted us, Johannes Brundin from NCSH were able to officially launch another project that we are running on behalf of the Swedish Energy Agency.

NCSH has received funding for 2 years, with an option for 2 more years, to work with internationalization of Swedish energy- and climate smart healthcare. The funding is from the Swedish Energy Agency.

The project is a result of many years of work and smaller projects and pre-studies. NCSH was chosen as one of 3 out of 15 pre-studies with different aspects of Swedish energy and climate smart fields and areas. During these 2-4 years activities will take place in different European countries, US, Canada and in later stages also in Asia.

The goal of the project is to lower the energy consumption and CO2 emissions from healthcare, spread smart technologies and practices and in the long run boost Swedish export. The project also aims to strengthen the Swedish market for new solutions and deliver surveys and reports to strengthen the field.

This means that NCSH needs more people and as a first step we have hired Johannes Brundin that has worked with NCSH back and forward for many years and have deep knowledge in Swedish cleantech, energy solutions and innovation/export related to these fields. During the spring we will also hire a back-office/administrative resource.

We will form a steering group for the projects in the next months and members in NCSH that are interested to take part can contact Daniel Eriksson on  or Johannes Brundin at  

In March a Kick-off will be held, probably in Malmö – if you are interested to take part, speak or get involved, please contact us. Until then we invite to an informal – or maybe very formal – pre-launch at the Swedish ambassador’s residence in Oslo.

Together with our project partners Medeon, Swecare, Medicon Village and Sahlgrenska Science Park, TEM and NCSH have received funding from Sweden’s Innovation Agency for a project submitted in the call 'Vision driven health'. The aim with this project is to create a vision for the most sustainable healthcare in the world by 2030.

The outputs from this project will lead to a more coherent view on sustainable healthcare and clarify this interdisciplinary matter. The outputs will also help create a more coherent view on sustainable healthcare in Sweden and in the long run lead to increased export and reduced environmental impact from the healthcare sector. To fully encompass all aspects of sustainable healthcare, Medtech and Life Science must be addressed and explored further.  

To increase the knowledge base and identify best practice companies and solutions, the project partners will perform four workshops taking place in different parts of Sweden. The material collected through the workshops will be used to develop both a guideline and the vision for sustainable healthcare.

On January 29th we are hosting a workshop on sustainable healthcare in Oslo, Norway. The workshop is part of a project Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare is running with funding from Nordic Innovation. The purpose of the project is to produce a Nordic White paper on Sustainable Healthcare which encompasses sustainable healthcare solutions in all Nordic countries. The project aim to increase knowledge and export of Nordic healthcare solutions. To gather information and cases to this white paper we are organising workshops in all Nordic countries. The last one was held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Last week, the Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare, in partnership with Afeka Institute of Circular Engineering and Economy, organized a delegation to Tel Aviv with focus on sustainable healthcare relating to smart and circular cities. The delegation was part of a project funded by Nordic Innovation.

In collaboration with the Swedish Embassy, the Danish Embassy, the Finnish Embassy, the Norwegian Embassy and Upgraded the delegation invited Nordic companies and organizations to spend two days in Tel Aviv, Israel to discuss the subject of how sustainable healthcare can be used as a leverage for smart and circular cities.

During November 14th , a conference was held for around 80 exclusively invited Israleli and Nordic stakeholders to sustainable healthcare. This included among other suppliers, procurers, environmental managers, maintenance managers and other hospital staff. The conference was opened by the ambassador of Norway and during the day we had the opportunity to listen to a range of experts within the area. Presentations came from organisations such as Nordic Innovation, Clalit Healthcare Services, Oslo University Hospital, BBD Ozonator, Schneider Electric, Logiwaste, Green Furniture Concept, Floow2Healthcare, Upgraded, NCSH, Afeka Institute of Circular Economy and Engineering and Vinnova.

The next day, November 15th, we were welcomed to the Rabin Medical Center, part of Clalit Healthcare services, where we got the opportunity to tour the hospital and see the needs and solutions at an Israeli hospital. To start of the day, we got an introduction to their work with environmental issues. This was followed by a discussion and exchange of how Nordic solutions and products could increase the environmental performance at the facility. After that we were guided around the hospital, seeing everything from waste and water treatment solutions to the patient flow as well as a glance at the new facilities currently being built.

After lunch at the hospital, the participating organisations were able to book one-on-one meetings with Nordic and Israeli stakeholders. During these meeting the participants were able to engage in discussions on collaboration and export possibilities while deepening the connections made during the delegation.

Yesterday, on november 1st, Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare organised a workshop in Copenhagen in collaboration with DTU – Technical University of Denmark.

NCSH is currently writing a Nordic White paper on sustainable healthcare with funding from Nordic Innovation, and as a part of that, the workshop was held to gather information and best practice from different stakeholders.

During the day we got to listen to speakers from DTU Business, NSCH, Nordic Innovation, Daintel, Capital Region of Denmark, Ecophon, Dansk Plejeteknik, Saint Gobain Nordic, Schneider Electric and Randers Region Hospital, who all gave us different and interesting perspectives on how actors within the healthcare sector can work with sustainability. The day ended with a workshop where the participants discussed the issues and opportunities for sustainability in healthcare. The workshop resulted in many interesting thoughts and ideas on how the work can be developed and improved.
