New Member: Tarkett

NCSH's network continues to expand, now with more sustainable flooring!

This week we are delighted to welcome Tarkett as the newest addition to NCSH. Tarkett is a worldwide leader in innovative flooring and sport surface solutions, and has been producing floors in Sweden since 1886. They describe themselves further like this:

We offer a wide range of products including vinyl, linoleum, rubber, carpet, wood, laminate, artificial turf and athletic tracks. The Group serves customers in more than 100 countries across the globe. Tarkett has 12,000 employees and 34 industrial sites, and sells 1.3 million square metres of flooring every day, for hospitals, schools, housing, hotels, offices, stores, and sports fields.

Committed to changing the game with circular economy and to reducing its carbon footprint, the Group has implemented an eco-innovation strategy based on Cradle to Cradle® principles, fully aligned with its Tarkett Human-Conscious Design® approach.

In 1962, Tarkett launched its first homogenous vinyl floor on rolls, produced in the factory in Ronneby, Sweden. Since then, millions of square metres have been used in hospitals all over the world. The iQ collections from Ronneby were developed to meet the high demands of hygiene and durability in public spaces, such as hospitals and schools. They are appreciated for the low cost of ownership and easy maintenance with low use of electricity and chemicals.

Tarkett is actively collecting and recycling its homogenous vinyl floors from all over Europe and collected 800 tons only in the Nordics last year. For every square metre of flooring recycled, the GHG-emissions are reduced with more than 10 kg.

In 2020, Tarkett introduced bio-attributed vinyl for a selection of the homogenous vinyl floors, where the normal fossil feedstock is replaced by bio-naphtha and a bio-based plasticizer giving a substantial decrease in GHG emissions A1-A3.

Survey: Nordic Health Data and Sustainability

Would you like to influence Nordic policies regarding shared health data?

Nordic Innovation has commissioned an analysis regarding health data. How could Nordic shared health data improve Nordic sustainable solutions, products and business models? What are the hurdles and struggles with cross-sectoral sharing of data and what are the advantages? Please take a few minutes for an online survey to share your views and insights.

If you are interested in the subject please follow our calendar and sign up for the webinar and the final report during Q2.

Thank you for your input!

Health data is one of the upgoing subjects globally. AI is here to stay and the use of IoT will increase possibilities for personalized, sustainable, and more effective health care. Agenda 2030 and SDGs are also one of the major global topics. This project targets the layer of the Nordic value of being in the forefront regarding sustainability and technical solutions. However, it has showed that there is hurdles for companies and life science on what data in possible to share, even if it is de-personified, there are different legislations in different countries. EU wants to harmonize the legislation and make it easier to share data in a safe way. The Nordic council of ministers want to know what Nordic companies need to be in the forefront, how shall the Nordic countries lobby in the legislative process in EU? What is important do you think?

The Nordic countries has an advantage regarding the genome of inhabitants, what kind of data that is available in databanks etc. How can the Nordic countries, companies, Life Science industries and the most important part the people make use of this advantage? Larger numbers of data and research gives us better sharpen solutions. This project is unique in its cross-sectorial approach including all sectors from Life Science, health care and connected industries. We have already found some interesting results, common struggles between the different silos but also answers and solutions with help of available technique known in one silo but unknown for the other.

Report: Transforming Indian Health Facilities To be Climate-Smart/Energy-Efficient

October 19th NCSH and Mamta hosted a joint Swedish/India conference within the platform for internationalisation of energy- and climate smart healthcare funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. A large number of speakers and participants from India, Sweden and beyond discussed needs and solutions from both Indian and Swedish healthcare.

promoting india

From the report:

The international webinar was hosted to accelerate the knowledge-led dialogues between the thematic experts and administrative leaders. It was a platform to exchange experiences around the latest and most compatible energyefficient solutions in the healthcare set-ups. The myriad of information-sharing and knowledge-building sessions would benefit the Public/Private health institutions for a more strategic response for transformation and energy-efficient solutions

(...)

From the webinar, this has been understood; though work for climate-resilient health care system has been started, this
needs a full force implementation work in every sector to achieve the goal of climate-smart health care systems. We have seen how and in what ways Swedish agencies have achieved these goals and what can be incorporated in the context of India jointly implementing resiliency and decarbonization strategies within the health sector. Climatesmart health-care can reduce emissions. This will strengthen the health sector as well as communities while ensuring access to clean independent energy, safe water, clean transport, and clean waste disposal mechanisms. This approach can form a foundation from which health care can contribute to broader policy initiatives aiming at both global climate and health goals.

This will be followed by a webinar 2022 and a delegation to India with Nordic stakeholders and solution providers. Contact us for more info.

3 workshops in January - Health data and sustainability

January 2022 we will deep dive into how the Nordic region and the global SDGs could benefit from integrated Nordic Health data. Join us to make your view count in the future work.

The digitalization of the society is moving rapidly, not least in the healthcare sector. We believe that not only hospitals and the life science industry, but also other connected industries like cleantech, ICT and other sectors could benefit a lot from access to health data. The advantages span from more effective healthcare, more specialized MedTech solutions to fulfilling the Global sustainable development goals.

This workshop will be a collective exercise where we together try to envision how this could look like. There will be speakers setting the stage, but also open discussion for those who want to share their thoughts. Take this opportunity to contribute and influence how the future will look like in this important field!

There will be three tracks to choose from depending on interest and your calender:

11 January -  Life Science industries 13-15 CET Sign up for this track!

Introduction speakers:

- Nima Jokilakso - Business FInland - Business and export opportunities for shared data innovation

- Frederik van Deurs - Green Innovation - Healthcare procurment and data

- Mikkel Lindskov Sachs, TrialNation

13 January – Connected industries 15-17 CET Sign up for this track!

Introduction speakers:

- Anders Strömberg - Head of wearable platform department - Sony

- Stig Mellström - Segment leader healthcare - Schneider Electric

- Daniel Eriksson - Nordic Center for sustainable healthcare - Healthcare, SDGs and Health data

14 January – Health care sector 10-12 CET Sign Up for this track!

Oliver Stenzel - Board Member ScanBalt MTÜ  - Head ScanBalt digital working group

Minna Hendolin - Leading Specialist, Ph.D, The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra - Nordics as a Lighthouse towards European Health Data Space

After the introductions we will work together to visualize how Nordic integrated healthdata related to the SDGs could look like 2030. We will use a method based on Foresight methodology developed by Stanford.

This webinar/workshop is a part of a Nordic Innovation project managed by a Nordic consortium focusing on sustainable healthcare innovation in relation to SDGs, Nordic integrated health data, healthcare providers, life science industry and other related industries.

Together, we will be envisioning what an innovative and connected Nordic region would look like if health data was shared seamlessly across public-private partnerships in the region. Shared health data plays into the circular economy, as well as clinical research, clinical trials, treatments, innovation- and development efforts means reduced friction and higher degrees of utilization of expended resources.
