New Member: E.ON ectogrid™

E.ON ectogrid™ and their revolutionary energy system has joined NCSH!

As a scalable solution for energy-efficiency, E.ON ectogrid™ offers one complete system for both heating and cooling. It is an innovation which strengthens our common quest of reaching zero emission levels – in the healthcare sector as well as beyond.

E.ON ectogrid™’s system maximises and optimises the use of energy. In their own words, the process can be described like this:

E.ON ectogrid™ is a closed grid with low temperatures where heat pumps and cooling machines in every building adjust the temperature according to need. In this process, each building sends excess heating or cooling to other buildings, depending on their needs. Through sharing, balancing, and storing energy in rotation, E.ON ectogrid™ efficiently uses all available energy flows before adding new energy. This drastically reduces energy consumption – and in turn costs and environmental impact.

New Member: Gibotech

Our most recent member provides high-tech automation solutions, for today as well as for the future!

Gibotech has a long of experience of working with automation, focused on custom-made products that are fit for purpose – not least in the healthcare sector. We are happy to now be able to introduce Gibotech to the NCSH network. See how they describe their important work here:

Gibotech's mission is to create value for people through innovative custom-made solutions.

And this is what we do when we automate processes at hospitals. We have experience in automating anything from the Central Sterile Supply Department to the goods reception. We take pride in finding the right solution for the customer, so their expectations are met and the advantages of automation are clear. This also means that our solutions are scalable; they can fit into almost any layout.

Automation means uniformising your processes for the robot to be programmed to conduct them. Among other things, this gives you a high level of efficiency, minimizes the risk of human errors and provides better utilization of materials. Automation also means a better working environment for the healthcare personnel, when robots and mobile robots undertake the monotonous and repetitive tasks that can wear on the body. In addition, the personnel do not have to use time on e.g. heavy lifting or pushing case carts, and can therefore use this time on more health-promoting tasks.

If you choose Gibotech to handle your hospital robot or other robotic solutions, we are responsible for both construction and programming.

With skilled companies, a strong healthcare system and internationally leading research environments, life science and welfare technology are one of Denmark's most significant positions of strength. The sector provides a large economic- and occupational footprint on the Danish economy.

An important factor for success is the close innovative public-private collaborations between companies, municipalities, regions and the state. Through knowledge sharing and collaboration, the most recent research and the health sector’s needs are converted into new competitive solutions that generate the most value for companies, patients, municipalities and the healthcare system.

Danish Life Science Cluster builds bridges throughout Denmark, across sectors, and in collaboration with companies, academic institutions, the healthcare system and municipalities.
The ambition is high. In the development of future healthcare solutions, the Danish national cluster must compete with the best clusters in the world within the field of life science and welfare technology.

Biodegradable face masks from our newest member: ELoMed!

Combining positive health benefits with reduced plastic waste, ELoMed’s product ELoMed™ bio face mask is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional face masks. In a time when the use of such masks has increased, this is a welcomed option for a greener world.

As an addition to sustainable healthcare, we are delighted to introduce ELoMed to the NCSH network. ELoMed describes their bio face masks further in these words:

We created this product so you don't have to make a compromise between your health and your ethics.

Why have we been left with only two choices until now? Reusable masks that claim to “do better for the environment” do not offer real protection, while the traditional disposable face masks that do continue to create an exponential amount of hazardous plastic waste.

We wanted to create a better choice: an eco-friendly face mask that actually works. The bio face mask yields a >99.9% BFE and a notably high breathability rate. Our face masks are completely lab tested to ASTM Standard (F2100) meeting Level 1 requirements. And if you want lab results, we will send them over with no questions asked. Full transparency, always.

New Member: HealthTextiles

Welcome to the network, HealthTextiles!

We are kicking off the autumn with officially introducing a new additon to the NCSH network: HealthTextiles.

HealthTextiles are developing innovative healthcare uniforms and textiles through the fabric TorTex™, with their basis in Sweden. Their uniforms are already a part of boosting sustainable healthcare and can be found in hospitals, health clinics and care homes across Europe.

They explain the necessity of such fabric like this:

Why do we need anti-bacterial clothes in the the healthcare sector?

Resistant bacteria is one of the biggest threats to humanity according to WHO.

In Sweden alone, health-associated infections from bacteria exposure in hospitals cost 6–7 billion SEK annually (according to Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions). 9% of all patients become infected by health-associated infections during their hospital stays in Sweden.

Textiles are the second biggest cause of spreading health-associated infections at Swedish hospitals. Proactive efforts in hygiene can save 3 billion SEK in Sweden and reduce 300, 000 hospital days for patients in Sweden.

You can read more about HealthTextiles's products and antimicrobial fabric on their website:

Your Solution is Needed: Project On Board for the Baltic Sea

Let us reduce pharmaceutical residuals in the Baltic Sea region!

We are happy to announce our latest project participation in partnership with Scanbalt from Estonia and the Lithuanian Biotechnology Association, in collaboration with Business Region Göteborg: Closing gaps: Techniques and solutions for reducing pharmaceutical residuals in the Baltic Sea region.

  • Do you have or know of a solution which reduces pharmaceutical residuals in healthcare waste? Tell us about it! Contact Caroline Charlier at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Baltic Sea is a shared space between nations and a complex ecosystem. Due to these factors, the space demands joint action to increase cross-sectorial collaboration and improve the environmental health of the Baltic Sea.

From YOU, we are interested in knowing about existing techniques, solutions, processes, and waste management systems that can reduce pharmaceutical residuals from reaching the sea and waste water. That being said, we would like to stop the residuals as early in the process as possible – in everything from the production of pharmaceuticals and the handling of used drugs, to management systems at hospitals, city waste treatments, hospital cleaning and so on.

Please let us know about the solutions out there!

About the project

Pharmaceutical residuals from the healthcare sector and their environmental impact are key areas where technical, operative, and normative gaps between countries need to lessen.

With this objective, the partners in this project will implement a multistakeholder horizontal collaboration during the next eight months. We will share and compare techniques and conditions for using innovative solutions – solutions that have the possibility of reducing pharmaceutical residual within the healthcare sector among the Baltic Sea countries.

The project will contribute to reducing and closing existing gaps (technical and operative) among the involved actors. It will also share and compare techniques, conditions, and innovative solutions – all with the long-term goal of reducing impacts on the environment.
