Grønnköpingkið Monday: New Solution From E.ON ectogrid™

A smart decentralized energy system for heating and cooling has moved into the digital hospital

Enabling the sharing and reusing of energy, E.ON ectogrid™’s solution constitutes a more sustainable energy system, adding to a green transition of energy supply in city quarters and dense communities (like hospitals).

"The system can share and reuse heating and cooling between buildings in a hospital area. It recycles energy for as long as possible and only adds new external energy after all existing internal energy streams have been exhausted. By doing so, it decreases the hospital’s energy cost and lowers the environmental footprint.

In some cases, the need for external energy has been reduced by 60% using E.ON ectogrid™. The temperatures in the system are lowered to the range of the earth’s temperatures, thus increasing safety in hospital areas and – since the system is bi-directional – there is only need for two pipes in the ground, taking up less space in densely built hospital areas."

You find E.ON ectogrid™’s solution in the category Energy Solutions by visiting the world’s greenest hospital:

New Member: FrostPharma

The visionary Swedish pharma company FrostPharma is now a part of NCSH!

We are happy to announce the entry of FrostPharma to our collaborative journey towards more sustainable healthcare systems worldwide. The company delivers several innovative products, and you can read about one of these (WoodSafe®) below:

"FrostPharma AB is a Sweden-based specialty pharma company founded in 2016. The Company focuses on commercializing niche pharmaceuticals and healthcare consumables throughout the Nordics and Baltics. Sustainability is a major part of our business. We carry a portfolio of 8 bioplastic disposable items and unique risk waste containers in 100% biocomposite - WoodSafe®.

About WoodSafe®

woodsafe
WoodSafe® is a new innovative series of hazardous waste containers made of residuals (sawdust) from Swedish forests and recycled plastics that halve the C02 emissions.

Today, hazardous waste containers in different sizes are a big part of the plastic consumption within healthcare. Aside from examination gloves and disposable aprons, hazardous waste containers are the biggest product in number of tons per year that go to incineration. According to LCA analyses, we could more than halve the climate footprint by just replacing today’s fossil-based plastic containers to containers made in biocomposite.

WoodSafe® is based on biocomposite produced by Stora Enso. The material is optimized to replace a wide range of polymers and it can also achieve a very high tensile strength. The benefits of wood fiber are its strength, natural look, its renewable raw material, and the low CO2 footprint. Stora Enso’s biocomposite is uniquely made to combine these advantages. WoodSafe® hazardous waste containers have optimized the mix of wood fibers and polymers with the purpose to meet the requirements of waste containers, according to UN tests, and at the same time minimize the climate impact. Woodsafe® is a part of the pharmaceutical company FrostPharma holds the patent portfolio regarding these hazardous waste containers."

Grønnköpingkið Mondays: New Solutions From Gibotech

High-tech automation has entered the world's greenest hospital!

Gibotech's two solutions – automating intralogistics and CSSD – are now part of that which makes Grønnköpingkið the most sustainable worldwide. You find these in the category "Transportation & Logistics". Automation not only enables a hospital to be sustainable in terms of environmental aspects, but equally of social ones. Gibotech describes the social effects like this:

By automating the intralogistics, the flow becomes more efficient and logical. The employees will be spared from heavy lifting and pushing when mobile robots and conveyors undertake the transportation. When you automate your CSSD, you also improve the working conditions for the employees. Automated processes remove the monotonous, repetitive tasks that can wear on the body, and you can make adjustments to improve the working posture.

Check out these solutions and all other ones from the platform by clicking below:
