Online Seminar: Yale and NCSH, November 10th

The Yale Program on Healthcare Environmental Sustainability and the Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare

Covid 19 Climate Change and Supply Chain Resiliency 6

About this Event

NCSH will in collaboration with Yale launch a series of webinars and moderated discussions that cover a range of topics on healthcare sustainability, drawing on expertise from the US, the Nordic countries, and beyond. The first webinar will be held on November 10th.

The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed vulnerabilities in the global healthcare supply chain. Supply chain shocks stem from both interruptions in manufacturing and transport, and surges in demand for drugs and materials greatly exceeding supply capacity. The urgent adaptation to the COVID-19 pandemic presents opportunities for establishing a more robust and resilient supply chain, with lessons drawn from the sustainable healthcare movement to address both mitigation and adaptation to climate change. This first webinar in our series offers insights from healthcare leaders, for clinicians, healthcare administrators, business leaders and regulators, intent on building a sustainable healthcare system.

Date: November 10th, 2020

Time: 11:00-13:00 EST / 17:00-19:00 CET

Place: Zoom

Cost: This webinar is free of charge

New member: Central Denmark Region

CDRAmong our members today we already have a number of Danish hospitals, but today we are pleased to announce that the Central Denmark Region is also joining Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare.

We let them introduce themselves:

Central Denmark Region (CDR) is the 2nd largest region in Denmark with approximately 1,3 million. people, about 23% of Denmark's total population. The Regional tasks covers both health, psychiatry, social care and regional development, such as environmental issues and mobility.

In CDR there are five hospital units, and here the major part of CDR's 30.000 employees are working. The hospitals play a role in every CDR citizen’s life at some point, to some degree. Hence, we see ourselves as holding a large responsibility in leading the way towards more sustainable organizations and productions in a broad perspective - and as inspiration for the public in general.

A new regional strategy for sustainability is currently in hearing. It presents new and highly ambitious 2030 goals concerning CO2 reduction, waste reduction, recycling, social responsibility, sustainable energy consumption etc. We are already preparing for plans for implementation and action. In addition, the overall strategy for regional development is based on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

With an active membership of NCSH we aim to increase and intensify our Nordic collaborations, as we believe that the challenge of creating sustainable healthcare is a task best solved through partnerships, across borders.

We look forward to future collaborations. Welcome!

Geoenergi omslag

This webinar presents the second Nordic Know-How report, this time on the topic of geothermal energy and the use of such systems in hospitals and other healthcare buildings. Geothermal energy can be both cost efficient and substantially reduce the environmental impact of a building. With this webinar we want to lift the many good examples of installed geothermal energy systems in Swedish hospitals and regions, and how they have reduced the climate impact of the buildings.

This afternoon we will listen to a representative from Region Västernorrland in Sweden, where they have installed a unique system for cooling the County Hospital in Sundsvall with snow. We will also listen to presentations from Energy Machines and ClimaCheck, both which have great knowledge when it comes to the technical part of geothermal energy.

New member - Regional Hospital West Jutland

RM med HE Vest navnetræk dansk RGB 369x249We are happy to welcome another member to Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare - Regional Hospital West Jutland in Denmark!

We let them introduce themselves:

Regional Hospital West Jutland (RHWJ) is part of Central Denmark Region. RHWJ currently consists of 3 regional hospitals (Herning, Holstebro and Lemvig) and 2 Health Centers (Ringkøbing and Tarm), and serves a geographic area of 290.000 citizens. While we are spread out over five different locations, we work together as one unit.
In a few years, though, we will all share the same address. A brand-new hospital is being built as we speak, and the first departments are moving in as soon as 2021. The new hospital will in many ways represent a new start, also when it comes sustainability. New technology is incorporated in the buildings, making it possible to live up to todays energy standards, and to practice energy management. Furthermore we focus om
procurement and waste management (circular economy) as a way of becoming more sustainable. We look forward to the journey.

Sustainable and Smart Healthcare in the Netherlands and the Nordics

Sustainable and Smart Healthcare in the Nordics and the Netherlands – What can we learn from each other?

On May 26th, NCSH together with the Dutch NGO Milieu Platform Zorgsector arranges a webinar on sustainable and smart healthcare. With this webinar we aim to foster an exchange of knowledge and expertise between the Nordic countries and the Netherlands.

The current spreading of COVID-19 has revealed vulnerabilities of the healthcare sector, and the need to increase resilience of our hospitals and other healthcare organisations. Sustainable and smart solutions can in many ways contribute to a healthcare sector that is more resource- and cost efficient, which is why it is important to lift and bring attention to the solutions that are already out there and in use.

This webinar is an opportunity to get insight into how hospitals in the Netherlands and in the Nordics work with sustainable and smart solutions. Which solutions have they implemented to reduce their climate impact? What are their biggest challenges in terms of sustainability? What are their ambitions for the future?

Date: May 26th

Time: 14.00-16.00 CEST

On May 6th, CSR Skåne will arrange a webinar on sustainable plastics together with NCSH.

The plastic issue is becoming more and more relevant. For example, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has been commissioned to coordinate Sweden's work for sustainable plastic use in 2020. They will also perform a national litter measurement to get a better basis for Sweden's implementation of the EU's single-use plastics directive. During this webinar, we will raise the plastic issue woth the help of speakers from our network who have experience and knowledge in the field.

This webinar will be held in Scandinavian, but if you are interested in participating in a similar webinar in English, please let us know!
