On 16–17 September 2026, partners in the Interreg Europe project DAPHNE – Decarbonising Healthcare in EU Regions – gathered in Iași, Romania, for the project’s 5th Interregional Learning Event.
The two-day event brought together project partners to exchange experiences, share good practices and discuss progress in improving policies for the decarbonisation of healthcare.
Two major project achievements were highlighted during the meeting. The Tuscany Energy Consortium presented its Pilot for Policy Improvement in Tuscany, drawing inspiration from the Irish experience to develop a real-time energy consumption information system. It was also announced that Belgium has achieved an improvement of a National Policy Instrument as a result of the DAPHNE project.
The programme included presentations of good practices from Romania’s North-East Region, including the Regional Hospital in Iași, the “Prof. Dr. Eduard Apetrei” Hospital in Buhuși and the Clinical Municipal Emergency Hospital of Moinești.
Participants also took part in study visits to the Clinical Rehabilitation Hospital of Iași and the “Saint Mary” Clinical Emergency Hospital for Children in Iași, the region’s primary paediatric centre.
During the second day, Diego Angelino, Global Project Director at the Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare (NCSH), shared NCSH’s experiences and tools to support the project partners in their policy improvement processes. NCSH participates in DAPHNE as the project’s expert advisory partner.
The DAPHNE project brings together 10 organisations from seven EU countries – Italy, Romania, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, Poland and Sweden – as well as public organisations from the EU candidate countries Serbia and Ukraine. The project aims to enhance the capacity of six national, regional and local authorities to design and implement better policies for decarbonising the healthcare sector.
