Last week, as part of the DAPHNE project, which focuses on decarbonizing healthcare in European Union regions, a study visit took place at UZ Leuven, one of Belgium's leading hospitals.
This visit provided a unique opportunity to observe firsthand the hospital’s incredible advancements and their commitment to creating a more sustainable healthcare environment.
The visit highlighted various aspects of sustainability efforts, from energy-saving initiatives and innovative logistics systems to green transportation solutions. Additionally, UZ Leuven has placed a significant emphasis on preserving the biodiversity of the surrounding areas, incorporating natural spaces and ecosystems into their design.
It was truly inspiring to witness how the hospital is blending healthcare with sustainability, setting an example for others to follow. The experience offered valuable insights into how healthcare facilities can contribute to environmental stewardship while maintaining high standards of care and service.
DAPHNE is an Interreg Europe project, co-funded by the European Union.
