The healthcare sector is undergoing a green revolution, and the NCSH model is at the forefront, providing a structured methodology to create hospitals with lower environmental impact, efficient resource use, and high-quality care for patients and staff. This model is shaping the future of sustainable healthcare worldwide.
In Romania, 4 hospitals in the northeastern region are using the NCSH model to identify priority actions for improving sustainability across the sector. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the Ivano-Frankivsk region has adopted the model as the foundation for auditing 67 buildings, including 15 hospitals, as part of its effort to build a more resilient healthcare system amid challenging circumstances.
These two initiatives are conducted as a part of the InterReg-project DAPHNE. The aim of DAPHNE is to reduce the carbon footprint from healthcare in 8 EU-regions, including partners from Serbia and Ukraine.
The model’s influence isn’t limited to Europe. It has previously been applied in two Indian regions—Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh—to develop strategies for greener hospitals, proving its adaptability across diverse conditions and resources.
A Proven, Global Tool
The NCSH model integrates over 20 years of expertise, drawing on audit standards like ISO 14001, energy mapping, European and Nordic regulations, and sustainable procurement guidelines. It’s been tested in various environments, demonstrating the importance of tailoring solutions to specific healthcare needs.
The ultimate goal? To train professionals worldwide to use the NCSH model, enabling practical, sustainable transformations in healthcare systems everywhere.
