Committed to "The Leeds Way", our new addition to the NCSH network delivers high quality care to patients while having a sustainable mindset!
We are delighted to welcome Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) as another member hospital to our international network. Read more about the organisation and their environmental work below:
"Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe, a regional and national centre for specialist treatment, a renowned biomedical research facility, and the local hospital for the Leeds community. Every year, LTHT provides healthcare and specialist services for people from the city of Leeds, Yorkshire and the Humber and beyond. 1.5 million patients are treated yearly, including more than 200,000 emergency patients.
The Trust recognises that to provide the best possible care to patients and improve their quality of life, they need to significantly reduce their impact on the environment. They have set a goal of becoming one of the greenest NHS trusts in the UK, and since 2014 they have reduced carbon emissions by 33% and are on track to meet the NHS 2040 net zero target.
In 2021 they became the first Carbon Literate NHS hospital Trust. They have also worked on innovative projects such as reducing carbon emissions used in anaesthetic gas and developing sustainable practices in laparoscopic appendectomy, as well as launching a green rewards incentive programme for staff."
