As one of the NCSH aims is raising the status and awareness of sustainable healthcare, we are pleased to welcome Kateryna Denysova, HIV and Health Programme Associate in UNDP Ukraine, in Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare! Kateryna is conducting a short-term mobility visit to perform peer shadowing within the grant from Swedish Institute (SI) Summer Academy for Young Professionals.
Kateryna decided to come to NCSH having in mind that Nordic countries remain the world-leaders in innovations for sustainable healthcare, and its solutions and knowledge can already be easily transfered to other parts of the world. In its turn, UNDP is committed to supporting countries achieve Sustainable Development Goals through the provision of integrated development solutions to address nexus of health, environmental degradation and climate change. As there is a growing recognition that the health and environment outcomes are interdependent, new approaches and potential collaborations to address the issue of climate change and sustainability in healthcare are needed.
Worth mentioning, that UNDP in Ukraine already has an experience in implementing activities related to the sustainable healthcare. Particularly, Sustainable Health in Procurement Project (SHiPP) has been developed jointly by UNDP and Health Care Without Harm (NCSH member) and it addresses the intersection between health, human rights and environment in 10 project countries, including Ukraine. It promotes procurement practices that consider environmental and social impacts, as well as cost-efficiency and affordability.
Kateryna already had an opportunity to attend a number of events on invitation of NCSH. For instance, she took part in the official kick-off meeting of the project ”Platform for internationalization: energy and climate smart healthcare”, which gathered together around 40 members and other stakeholders to discuss and showcase the best nordic practices in energy efficiency and climatesmart healthcare. Besides, she also participated in the training on Sustaibale Healthcare, where she not only learned more innovative solutions of work with sustainability in hospitals, but also improved her Swedish, that was the official language of the training.
